Composing the Soundtrack: A Talk with the Composer

September 3rd, 2012

Composing a soundtrack for a film can be a difficult thing. It can be very hard to capture the very essence of a film like Jig. The dancing champions of the Irish world have such a delightful spirit. It can be difficult to put all the different moments into one film score.

It does come along after the pieces of the movie come together. A composer has to feel inspired in many instances when a soundtrack is composed. The composer has to be made to feel something. This feeling, this momentum that comes across in the film has to be something that’s genuine and authentic.I found some more information here.

The composer knows that the fans of the movie will mesmerized. In a documentary like Jig the fans of this movie will be focused on the characters. Their hearts will go into feeling what these people feel. The music will be a backdrop. It has to be something that enhances the film. It cannot take away from the spirit of the individuals that are presented on the screen.

The soundtrack is unique. It has to capture the right moments and make people think of the film even when the film is no where in sight.
